Call for abstracts: 果冻影院 BAME Awarding Gap Conference 2021

Staff and external guests are invited to share success stories and lessons learned from the ongoing听journey to close the undergraduate BAME Awarding Gap. Deadline extended to Monday 31 May.
The 果冻影院 Black, Asian and minority Ethnic (BAME) Awarding Gap Project will hold a one-day conference听on Wednesday 9 June听on the theme of鈥�楥losing the BAME Awarding Gap at 果冻影院: our journey so far'.听
The conference, taking place听via Zoom, will open with a welcome from听President &听Provost, Dr Michael Spence.听听
The deadline for submissions has been extended. 果冻影院 staff and external speakers are invited to submit suggestions for presentations or facilitated discussions by the end of Monday 31 May.听
Celebrate success and shape the journey听
果冻影院 data shows that there is a small but statistically significant discrepancy in the rate of good degrees achieved by Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) students compared with white students, despite entering 果冻影院 with the same high entry qualifications.听While 果冻影院 students, whether white or BAME, tend to perform well above national benchmarks, this discrepancy, known as an awarding gap, has persisted for the past few years.听
果冻影院 is on a journey to address this disparity听in听the听outcomes and experience of undergraduate Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) and white students at 果冻影院.听
We invite staff to contribute to the conference 鈥� to share and celebrate successes so far and听to听help drive forward the conversation on what more needs to be done at 果冻影院 to close this gap.听听
Staff and guests can contribute in听two ways:听鈥�
Giving a听10 minute presentation听followed by a 10 minute Q&A听about听ongoing or completed听work听relating to the undergraduate鈥痑warding gap,听OR听
贵补肠颈濒颈迟补迟颈苍驳听补 30 minute discussion about a topic relating to the BAME Awarding Gap.听
The presentations and discussions can be in partnership with students and can discuss work in progress, as well as work completed.听听听
We also welcome contributions from colleagues outside of 果冻影院 who are working in this area.鈥�

DEADLINE EXTENDED: The听closing date for submission of abstracts is the end of Monday 31 May.听听
The conference will take place on 9 June 2021, from 9:45am - 4.30pm.听All submitted presentations/discussions听will be delivered live, online between 1.30pm-3.30pm on that day.听
We aim to announce the finalised programme by Tuesday 25 May.听
Student contributions
Students will also be invited to submit asynchronous content in the form of a blog, 5 minute video or a听powerpoint听presentation听on any work they have undertaken听related to听closing the听BAME Awarding Gap at undergraduate level at 果冻影院. 鈥�
In recognition of the financial hardship that some students have suffered due to the loss of their part-time jobs during the pandemic,鈥痶he conference committee will award a听stipend of 拢25 for each听student听involved in a successful submission听of asynchronous content.听
