Thomas Hughan

1760 - 1811

Biography

London West India merchant, slave trader and MP who had been resident in Kingston Jamaica for ten years in the 1790s. MP for East Retford 1806-1807 and Dundalk 1808-1811. His posthumous son also Thomas Hughan of Airds left 拢40,000 in 1879.

  1. Will of Thomas Hughan of City of London [and of North End Hampstead] proved 20/01/1812. In the will he mandated that his wife's annuity be secured first from his funds. He then left 拢3000 for a natural daughter Jane Hughan and 拢2000 for a natural daughter Margaret Hughan, 拢5000 to his sister and 拢1000 to John Murray, son of David Murray of Hornby House, with the remainder of his estate passing 'as the law directs.' Although he had made a will in Jamaica, there is no evidence of property in people in his English will.
