Biography

Slave-owner and planter who returned to Britain to live at Hornby House, Melling Co. Lancaster, and husband of Agnes Murray (q.v.).

  1. Will of David Murray of Melling Co. Lancaster [made in 1822] proved 14/01/1823. In the will David Murray identified himself as of Hornby House, Melling and as the owner of Bath estate in Westmoreland: he said he had 'some time ago' secured an annuity of 拢1000 p.a. to his wife Agnes on the estate and the enslaved people on it. He put his residuary estate in trust to further secure the 拢1000 p.a. for his wife Agnes, and subject to that to secure 拢700 p.a. to his son John.
