CPS Summer Meeting 2023 Presentation Prize Winners!

It is our great pleasure to announce the Student and Early-career Presentation Prize winners from the recent CPS Summer Meeting.

We are delightedÌýto announce the Student and Early-career Presentation Prize winners from the CPS Summer Meeting held on Thursday 22nd June at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº.ÌýThe reviewÌýpanel were impressed with the very high standard of presentationsÌýand the competition was very close.

Research talksÌý

Prizes for research talks are awarded in three categories:

Masters students

In joint first prize, a £50 Love2Shop Voucher is awarded to each of the following:

  • Skye Sands (MSc Planetary Science 2021/22, ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº): Mineral Biosignatures from Biwabik Formation, as an early mars analogue
  • Anna Parsec (MSc Space Sci & Eng. at MSSL): Dioscuri: Mission Concept for Titan ExplorationÌý

A runner-up prize of a £25 Love2Shop Voucher is awarded to:

  • Sidonie Coker (Natural Sci. MSci, ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº): An integrated view of the Martian carbon cycle

PhD researchersÌý

In joint first prize, a £50ÌýLove2Shop Voucher is awarded to each of the following:

  • Catherine Regan (MSSL): Effects of the 2007 Martian global dust storm on boundary positions in the induced magnetosphere
  • Priya Patel (MSSL): Water-ice cloud observations at Jezero Crater by the Perseverance Rover

ÌýA runner-up prize of a £25 Love2Shop Voucher is awarded to:

  • Luke Keyte (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº P&A): Azimuthal C/O variations in a planet-forming disk

Early-career researchers

A first prize of a £50 Love2Shop Voucher is awarded to:

  • Dr Emily Ingman (MSSL): Surface science investigations of complex organic molecules under astrophysically relevant conditions

ÌýA runner-up prize of a £25 Love2Shop Voucher is awarded to:

  • Dr Antonio Manjón-Cabeza Córdoba (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº ES): Grain size evolution and mantle convection: Earth vs. Venus

ÌýAn honourable mention and prize of a £15 Love2Shop Voucher is awarded to:

  • Dr Zixiao Guo (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº ES): Evidence for primitive sedimentary organic matter in graphite from the Eoarchean Saglek banded iron formationÌý

Research posters

A first prizeÌýofÌýa £50 Love2Shop VoucherÌýis awarded to:

  • Jack Hill (MSc Planetary Science): Cosmic-ray Imaging for Martian Subsurface Exploration

Many congratulations to all the winners and for the excellent standard of work and presentations!Ìý Thanks also to the presentation prize panel: Karen Anne Devoil, Ian Crawford, Andrew Rushby and Andrew Coates.

There were a total of 13 research presentations on the dayÌýwithÌýabout 30 attendees, and it was great to see colleagues from all four CPS departments: ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Physics and Astronomy, Earth Sciences, Space and Climate Physics (a.k.a. MSSL; the Mullard Space Science Laboratory) and Birkbeck Earth and Planetary Sciences.
