Parkinson's UK open access policy and funding

Papers funded in whole or in part by Parkinson's UK must meet Parkinson's UK's open access requirements. Find out how to check whether your chosen journal complies, and what funding is available.

The applies to peer-reviewed research papers funded by Parkinson's UK. These outputs within six months of publication. 

Complying with the policy

±«²õ±ðÌý to check whether your chosen journal offers a compliant Green or Gold option. For additional clarification, check the journal website. If you are unsure whether your journal complies,Ìýcontact ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's Open Access Team before submission.

Green open access

If you are publishing in a subscription journal, provided that the journal's embargo on Green open access is no longer than 6 months you can comply by uploading your final accepted manuscript to Europe PubMed Central,Ìýusing . Papers should also be uploaded to RPS.

Gold open access

If you are publishing in a subscription journal with a Gold open access option (known as a hybrid journal), or you are publishing in a ,Ìýyou can comply through Gold open access. Parkinson's UK grantholders can publish in ,Ìýan open access publishing platform for Parkinson's UK and other member charities.

Open access funding

¹û¶³Ó°Ôº does not receive an open access grant from Parkinson's UK. The Charity Open Access Fund (COAF), which was previously able to pay the open access charges for some Parkinson's UK-funded papers, no longer exists.

¹û¶³Ó°ÔºÂ can pay open access charges for peer-reviewed research articles and uncommissioned reviews funded by Parkinson's UK where the paper:

  1. has a ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº corresponding author and the journal is included in ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's transformative agreements; or
  2. is eligible for funding from ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's Wellcome Trust,ÌýUK Research Council (UKRI), CRUK and/or BHF funds.

Parkinson's UK to include open access costs in their research grant applications. While certain papers may be eligible for ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's central open access funding (see the Unfunded publications section of our Open access funding page), authors should use Parkinson's UK funds where possible.

Conditions of publication

Parkinson's UK grantholders that their research has been supported wholly or in part by Parkinson's UK using the format, "This work was supported by Parkinson's UK [grant number *-****]".
