Transformative publisher agreements

'Read and Publish' is one type of transformative agreement. This page explains how to use ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's 'Read and Publish' agreements.

Models of transformative agreement include 'Read and Publish' and 'Subscribe to Open'. These agreements allowÌýpapers to be published open access, on publication, under the CC BY licence. Journals that are , or allow Green open access with the CC BY licence, also achieve this. All these types of journals meet funders' open access requirements. There is more information about the different models on our About transformative agreements page.

'Read and Publish' agreements involve institutions paying a fee to allow users access to content and Gold open access publishing.

Journals in ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's transformative agreements

This list isÌýupdatedÌýas new agreements become available, soÌýis it advisable to check the original rather than saving a copy. If your journal is included, check our individual publisher instructions belowÌýfor detailsÌýof which article typesÌý²¹²Ô»å authors are covered.

Journals not included in this list

Some fully open access journals are included in this list, but many are not in agreements. If your journal is listed in the , it is fully open access. Funding is available for certain types of fully open access papers.ÌýSee our criteria for open access funding, by funder and for unfunded papers.

This list does not includeÌýSubscribe to Open (S2O) journals (e.g.Ìý,ÌýÌýjournals, and ). To publish in these journals, check whether the content has been opened for the year. If not, upload your accepted manuscript to RPS and, if your funder requires it, , on publication, under the CC BY licence (Green open access). See our information aboutÌýSubscribe to Open.

Which papers can use ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's transformative agreements?

¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's transformative agreements cover open access costs for papers that:Ìý

  • have a ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº corresponding author and are published in subscription and fully open access journals included in the agreement.Ìý
  • are an eligible article type. Although most agreements include research and review papers, some agreements have restrictions on what paper types are included. You can seeÌýwhich paper types are eligible for each agreement by checking the individual publisher instructions ²ú±ð±ô´Ç·É.Ìý

To enable papers funded by the UK Research CouncilsÌý(UKRI),Ìýthe Wellcome TrustÌý²¹²Ô»å other funders to be published Gold open access, ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº authors with relevant funding areÌýencouraged, where appropriate, to act as corresponding author.

Transformative agreements do not always cover other mandatory publication charges, such as page charges. Authors are advised to ask their journal's editorial office, before submission, whether any non-open access publication charges apply, and, if so, request a waiver. UKRI and Wellcome do not fundÌýpage, colour and other non-open access publication charges.
