The Doctoral School is pleased to announceÌýthe Blog/Vlog & Podcast Competition, which aimsÌýto recognise new forms of media that researchers have started using, especially to express their research ideas to the general public.

Competition guidelines

Blog & Podcast submissions can be about your research or something more personal or funny about your experience as a researcher, like a research ‘failure’. Regardless, they should be easily understandable toÌýa broad audience.

Written blog

• The post should follow the style of a submission toÌý.
• Be less than 1000 words (most Conversation articles are only 600-800 words).
• Format: PDF or link to online platform.

Video blog & Podcast

• The post should be 5 minutes or less in length.
• You can easily upload videos from your phone to YouTube for free, where it will caption your videos for you. You can of course also use fancier platforms like iMovie, etc.
• Format: if too large a file, you can dropbox them to us separately but do consider uploading onto youtube or a similar online platform and sending us a link.

To enter the competition you must complete the entry form linked at the bottom of this page.

Prizes

First Prize:Ìý£400Ìý
£100Ìýfor runners up – the number of runner up prizes will be decided based on entriesÌýquality and number.

If you are a current recipient of the eligible ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº scholarship you will also have a chance to win a prize funded by the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Student Funding Office: First PrizeÌý£400Ìýor Runner-upÌý£100. You will find a question about eligible scholarships in the entry form.

Prize winners will be announced at the Researcher Showcase Day on 5ÌýJune 2024.
