IEP's Molly Lavender-Rose wins Provost's Award

Molly Lavender-Rose, Senior Teaching & Learning Administrator for the Integrated Engineering Programme, has been recognised with a Highly Commended Award for the Provost’s Award for Embedding Equality, Diversity & Inclusion.

This award recognises an individual or team’s effort to embed EDI into mainstream work through their approach and undertaking of tasks, be it day-to-day tasks or larger projects. With over 100 nominations, Molly was presented the award by the Provost at the annual ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Inclusion Awards in July 2024.

Molly authoredÌý"Am I Being Unreasonable? Reasonable Adjustments in the Faculty of Engineering" report.

The primary goal of this project was to investigate why students were not applying for Summary of Reasonable Adjustments in the expected numbers. The report examines students’ knowledge and understanding of SoRA's and EC's, shedding light on preconceptions, challenges, and offering recommendations.

This report delves into the experiences and insights of undergraduate students across various engineering disciplines at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº who have diverse neurodivergent, physical, and mental health conditions. The recommendations within the report are a very good resource for departments to provide all staff (particularly personal tutors, staff in student facing roles as well as those who teach our students) and students themselves with vital information on how to signpost students to getting more support via a SORA from our ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Student Support and Wellbeing services.

A video was also produced as part of the project, to provide a valuable summary of what SoRAs are and how to access them, this is aimed primarily at students but is also a useful resource for staff.
