There has been a sustained interest in investing in African cities from sovereign actors over the last few decades. China鈥檚 role is iconic, although not unique - Japan, South Korea and India will also figure in the research. State and private sector Chinese firms have been enrolled in the geopolitically ambitious 鈥淏elt and Road鈥� initiative, bringing large scale infrastructural investment to the Eastern coastal areas of Africa, but extensive engagement is apparent across the continent.
