¹û¶³Ó°Ôº strengthens commitment to support UK students with Accommodation Bursary

4 June 2024

Aimed at home students from low-income backgrounds and those who hold ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Access offers, the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Accommodation Bursary provides up to £1605 to assist students with living costs.

¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Accommodation

¹û¶³Ó°Ôº acknowledges the growing financial burden students face, especially in relation to living costs. As part of this, the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Accommodation BursaryÌýaims to support incoming students with rent costs. This initiative forms a part of ¹û¶³Ó°Ôºâ€™s commitment to reducing financial barriers to higher education for students from low-income backgrounds and is paid in addition to the main ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Undergraduate Bursary.Ìý

Eligibility for the bursary is determined automatically, with students needing to accept ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº as either their firm or insurance choice and apply for accommodation through the university. Last year, ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº offered up to 687 accommodation bursaries and spent a total of £711,000 to support students in the 2023/24 academic year.Ìý

A current recipient of the bursary says:Ìý

"The ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Accommodation Bursary has been an absolute lifesaver for me during my first term at university. Being a student, I was concerned about my living expenses in London. The bursary allowed me to use my saved funds on essential items... I was relieved that I could focus on my studies without having to worry about finding the means to purchase these items and pay for my accommodation. The support I received from the Accommodation Bursary has been invaluable, and I am incredibly grateful for it."

Director of Accommodation, Joe Lay, said:

"It's great that the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Accommodation Bursary can alleviate the financial burden of housing costs for eligible students. As a result, the Hall community is richer, with all residents benefiting from an increase in home students in the Halls."
