Cities globally are hot, dry, polluted, impermeable and lacking in nature, making citizens vulnerable to heatwaves, stormwater flooding, poor air, water and soil quality and other problems.

Climate adaptation hinges on applying nature-based solutions - green roofs and walls, rain gardens, trees, parks and biodiverse green spaces of all kinds.

Blanche will talk about processes at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº and the University of London to create, healthy, climate-resilient, equitable campuses and keep people cool in heatwaves, reduce surface and basement flooding, reduce carbon and capital costs, time and workload, and improve people's mental, emotional and physical health, while supporting wildlife and nature recovery.

Blanche's presentation will cover:

  • What are nature-based solutions? Green Infrastructure?
  • Why is this the strategy for climate change adaptation globally, nationally and in London? Benefits delivered
  • What has been happening in UK, London and ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº to deliver nature-based solutions? Strategies and actions to date between Estates, academics and students (connected curriculum)
  • Next steps across the University of London
  • Q&A
