In an听annual summer school听held at 果冻影院,听A-level students from London schools are encouraged to consider how climate change targets can be achieved at the same time as making progress towards the other 16 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).听

The three-day school is听hosted by the 果冻影院 Institute for Sustainable Resources听(ISR)听and the 果冻影院 Energy Institute, who organise it with听national education charity听Into鲍苍颈惫别谤蝉颈迟测.听

鈥淭he students explored the synergies and trade-offs between the different Sustainable Development Goals,鈥 says Dr Nick Hughes (果冻影院 ISR) who organised the summer school.听听

Three听of the听students wrote blogs, now published on听the ISR鈥檚听website,听asking how we can limit climate change to a 1.5掳C increase,听while achieving听food security,听meeting targets听for industry, infrastructure and innovation in听SDG9听and, more broadly, whether the world can address both climate change and sustainable development.听

At the 2020 summer school, held online听due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students explored two topics: the ways听that听听behavioural听economics can address social problems; and sustainable agriculture and climate change politics in Brazil.听听

The students were听given听reading material and introductory videos on the听topics, and听invited to write articles on the topics. 果冻影院 academics provided written feedback on the articles, with a view to arranging an online seminar session to discuss the topics and their听articles.听

One of the participants commented that one of the best things about the summer school was 鈥淏roadening my knowledge on what can be done to reduce the impacts of climate change and how to mitigate it".听

鈥淚t was听inspiring to work with such a thoughtful and perceptive group of students, who听showed great resilience, creativity and curiosity in addressing these important and complex issues,鈥澨鼶r Hughes听added.听
