Gina Elliott
What I do

Hi, I’m Gina. I am the Student Adviser for the Division of Psychology and Language Sciences (PALS), Ear Institute and Institute of Neurology and I am here for you as a key point of contact during the first year of your undergraduate studies. I am available to discuss any wellbeing, support, and student experience matters.

Who am I?

About Gina

What was your experience of Further/Higher education like?

My experience of university was mixed. While it was some of the best years of my life, it was also much harder than I anticipated. Academically the ways of working were very different from school, which took me a while to get to grips with, but the topics I studied were much more interesting to me, and I really enjoyed seminar discussions.

I struggled with my mental health for the first time, but thanks to the support available at my university, I was able to grow as a person and felt much stronger by the end of the experience. I love living independently, and my housemates were grateful I knew how to cook a few good meals (thanks Mum!).

What do you like most about your work as a Student Adviser?

I love ¹û¶³Ó°Ôºâ€™s proactive approach to wellbeing, I was never someone who liked reaching out for help so knowing that I check in on every student and give them the opportunity to access support if needed feels meaningful. I also enjoy being part of students’ journey through ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº, especially when they share good news with me!

What's a surprising or interesting fact about yourself?

My Spotify most-played song of the year was from Disney's Encanto. While I would like to partially blame my young niblings for this, I must admit it is a brilliant soundtrack!

Events

Working within Student Support and Wellbeing Services, we will be hosting a range of events and activities during term time to support your Social bonding, Skills for life, and Wellbeing at university. Explore the workshops and activities you can join throughout the academic year listed below, then click the 'Book a space on an event' button to reserve your place.

Term 1: September - December 2024

Come along to meet Gina, your Student Adviser and your new classmates in one of our friendly, ice-breaker sessions!

Find out a little bit more about your Student Adviser, how we can best support you during your first year at university, and the exciting events we'll have on throughout the year.

After your Student Adviser has had the chance to say hello, you'll also have an opportunity to meet your new classmates. We appreciate starting university can be a nerve-wracking time, so there will be some activities and games to get you all socialising, so you can start the term off already knowing a few friendly faces!

This event is completely free, and a great way to ease your nerves and meet some new faces before you start your course. We can't wait to see you there!

Please note we are running this session twice, and both sessions will be the same. You do not need to attend both sessions. However, if you would like to spend more time meeting your classmates then you are welcome to do so.
