What I do

Hi, I’m Taran. I am the Student Adviser for History and I am here for you as a key point of contact during the first year of your undergraduate studies. I am available to discuss any wellbeing, support, and student experience matters.

Explore the workshops and activities you can join throughout the academic year listed below, then click the event hyperlink to book your place.

Term 1: September - December 2024
Meet your Classmates Hosted by Your Student Adviser

Come along to meet Taran, your Student Adviser and your new classmates in our friendly, online ice-breaker session!

Find out a little bit more about your Student Adviser, how we can best support you during your first year at university, and the exciting events we'll have on throughout the year.

After your Student Adviser has had the chance to say hello, you'll also have an opportunity to meet your new classmates. We appreciate starting university can be a nerve-wracking time, so there will be some activities and games to get you all socialising, so you can start the term off already knowing a few friendly faces!

About Taran

What was your experience of Further/Higher education like?

I really enjoyed my time at university but also found it challenging at times. I was the first of my family to go to university so I didn’t know what to expect. I talked to university staff about issues I was having and this helped a lot with making my experience easier and more enjoyable.

What do you like most about your work as a Student Adviser?

I enjoy witnessing the growth of students throughout their first year, from before they begin at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº to receiving their first exam results. I also love participating in events and activities for students, such as open days and induction week.

What's a surprising or interesting fact about yourself?

I used to work at a museum when I was a teenager, and have helped to catalogue letters written by Jane Austen and Lord Byron!
