These marketing messages will sound familiar to many. Essay mills and essay banks target university students in the middle of assessments, when stress levels are at their highest.听听

But students are being warned to ignore contact by听any听individual听and organisation听offering to do assignments for听you.听It听may sound听dramatic, but听taking up these offers听could affect you long into the future.听

What are essay mills and essay banks?听听

Essay mills听write听custom essays听or assignments听for a student,听in exchange for听a fee. They will tailor the essay to the assignment brief, word count and deadline.听听

Essay banks听are听similar听but less-tailored services听that offer听a list of pre-written essays to choose from.听听

These businesses may try to market these essays as 鈥榯emplates鈥� that you can use to generate ideas or tailor to your own needs.听听

What鈥檚 the harm?听听

Essay鈥痬ills sound relatively harmless 鈥� after all, you鈥檙e just getting some outside help to relieve the pressure, right? However,听using these services听can have serious and听lasting consequences:听听

• 鈥�Commissioning a third party to do a piece of assessment for you, with the intention of submitting it as if it were your own work鈥櫶齣s treated by 果冻影院 as 鈥榗ontract cheating鈥�. This is a specific type of academic misconduct which can be听investigated听and penalised as a听breach听of听果冻影院鈥檚 assessment听regulations, the outcome of which may be听expulsion.鈥疐ind out more in听Section 9: Student Academic Misconduct Procedure.听

• Assessment听at 果冻影院 is designed to听actually help听you learn and progress.听If you don鈥檛 do the work听yourself, you鈥檒l graduate with knowledge gaps. It won鈥檛 take long for these to become obvious when you are expected to apply this knowledge in future,听putting any future job at risk.听

These cheaters know who you are - there have been instances where the third party has threatened to expose the student for commissioning work for them, unless they pay more money.听This听blackmail听could have a lasting impact on your reputation and mental health.听听听

• Professional bodies, like those for engineering, laws, architecture etc., take a stern view of cheating and can disbar you from practising your chosen profession. Many professions, e.g., medicine, teaching etc., are also subject to 鈥榝itness to practise鈥� procedures designed to determine if you have the knowledge, skills and character required听for that career. If you haven鈥檛 done the groundwork now, you are setting yourself up for failure down the road.听
