Gennady Eduardovich Burbulis 鈥撎齱as born in the Ural region in 1945. He graduated from the Philosophical Faculty of Sverdlovsk (now: Ekaterinburg) State University and started his career in academia. Since 1987 he began to be involved in politics and held several high positions in the first government of the Russian Federation. In the early 1990s, he was one of the main architects of Russian political and economic reforms. A close associate of Boris Yelsin, he was one of the drafters and signers of the Belavezha Accords on behalf of Russia, which signified the disintegration of the Soviet Union. 听
