Slovo Journal is the SSEES postgraduate journal, entirely managed and edited by postgraduate students at SSEES. It is an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to the study of the political, social, economic, and cultural affairs of Russia, Central and Eastern Europe, and Central Asia. This event will launch the first issue of the 2021-2022 academic year. It is a chance to celebrate the work of all the issue authors, as well as providing information to students interested in contributing to the journal in the future. We invite you to join us in highlighting the work of all those who contributed to the issue this year.

This issue features articles on gender in Montenegrin metaphor; Russian media and political strategy; and the role of British music empresarios in the Cold War. It also includes reviews of films and books on a wide variety of topics, from Balkan beekeeping to trade with Muscovy!

Editor-in-Chief, Serian Carlyle, will open the event with a short presentation on the journal and its work this year. A few of the issue contributors will then provide short presentations on their topics – a smorgasbord of academic research on the SSEES region. There will be the opportunity for questions from the audience, then we will end with the chance to relax and socialise.

We would like to extend our thanks to SSEES for their support and our anonymous peer-reviewers for their expertise and time. The issue would not have been able to be completed without their support and we are extremely grateful to everyone for their help.
