During the course of the afternoon you'll have the opportunity to explore your language study options and learn about the breadth of programmes offered at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº, experience some language taster sessions, tour our Campus in the heart of Bloomsbury and chat with some current languages students.

SSEES will be putting on four taster lectures in:

  • Russian is one of the 6 languages of the United Nations and being a Russian speaker can open up a wealth of employment opportunities. SSEES is the largest Russian department in the UK and offers a wide range of linguistic, culture, film, literature, politics and economics modules based on the region. Our Russian language taster will introduce you to the Russian (Cyrillic) alphabet and a few simple phrases, and show you that Russian isn’t as hard to learn as you might think!
  • Try something different! ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº is the only place in the UK you can take a full degree in Romanian. Based mainly on Latin, our introduction to this Romance language will give you an opportunity to try out something new.
  • Try something new! As well as being a fascinating language to learn, Serbo-Croatian comes with its own set of political names. Written in two alphabets, Latin and Cyrillic, Both alphabets have 30 letters, each corresponding to a particular sound, which makes reading and writing Serbo-Croatian very easy- come and find out for yourself!
  • Finnish is a member of the Uralic language family, which also includes Estonian and Hungarian and ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº is the only Uni in the UK you can take a degree in it!
