ABOUT

果冻影院 Spices and Medicine听is听an interdisciplinary initiative听that aims to showcase research relating the history of potent substances听to the present day and its relevance across different academic听fields, and to foster collaborations with institutions and communities interested in exploring botanical traditions.听

Volunteer听students, staff, and colleagues give听their time, expertise, and knowledge听to explore relevant themes and venues for engagement, with a special focus on sharing听the academic floor on drugs and herbal medicines research听with herbal practicioners, independent scholars, and those outside of academia. 果冻影院 Spices and Medicine was initially the theme of听a 2013听conference organised by Marianne Jennifer Datiles and Michael Heinrich, and sponsored by the British Society for the History of Science and London BioNat. Our activities since then have听included a special journal issue,听Potent Substances听(Journal of Ethnopharmacology 2015), five听symposia at the 果冻影院 School of Pharmacy, and participation听in a number of public engagement events in the London area over the years. The 2024 annual symposium is being organised by Banaz Jalil and听Michael Heinrich. We look forward to continuing to broaden engagement听and explore these themes with you!
