The majority of this proposed process is still to be investigated and the key questions of our research are:
- How do cascading disasters propagate and escalate?聽
- How do primary triggers and vulnerability paths interact together?
- What are the possible interactions of non-conventional triggers, such as extreme space weather and cyber security?
- Which nodes concentrate the most vulnerability and what could be their carrying capacities?
- Can our qualitative understanding of indirect effects of cascading be integrated into quantitative loss indexes?
- Is the escalation of cascading the same in high developed countries, developing areas, global cities and rural areas?
- Is it possible to improve mitigation measures and preparedness strategies using the concept of cascading disasters?
