Election into the AIMBE College of Fellows is one of the highest honours for professionals in the fields of medical and biological engineering. This esteemed group represents the top 2% of engineers in these disciplines. Membership is awarded to individuals who have made remarkable contributions to engineering and medicine through research, practice, or education, and who have pioneered new fields of medical technology.

Professor Basit was one of two UK academics nominated, thoroughly reviewed, and subsequently elected by his peers and current members of the College of Fellows. He was recognized specifically for his significant contributions in developing and translating advanced drug delivery technologies.

The formal induction ceremony took place during the AIMBE Annual Event at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel in Arlington, Virginia, on March 25^th, 2024. Professor Basit joined other esteemed colleagues who make up the AIMBE College of Fellows Class of 2024.

In recognition of the award and induction, Professor Basit聽says 鈥淚 am honoured to be recognised by such a prestigious research body but would like to first of all thank and dedicate this to my research group, as it is their work and efforts that have made this possible鈥�.聽
