Applications open for the Yenching Academy's two year fellowship

¹û¶³Ó°Ôº final year students and alumni can apply for a fully-funded place on the Yenching Academy's Master's programme in China Studies.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to study at Peking University (PKU) in Beijing. A two-year programmeÌýfrom September 2024 will develop their understanding of China and its role in the world.Ìý

At the core of the programme lies an emphasis on interdisciplinarity and the value it assigns to thinking about China’s past, present and future – from both Chinese and international perspectives.Ìý

Scholars are given the flexibility to customise their programme within the broadly defined fields of the humanities and social sciences. Working closely with their academic mentors, theyÌýchooseÌýcourses from six research areas:Ìý

  • Economics and ManagementÌý
  • History and ArchaeologyÌý
  • Philosophy and ReligionÌý
  • Politics and International RelationsÌý
  • Law and SocietyÌý
  • Literature and CultureÌý

Eligibility Ìý

Applicants should have:Ìý

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in any field, or be currently enrolled in a Bachelor degree program and be on track to graduate no later than 31 AugustÌý2024.Ìý
  • An outstanding academic record.Ìý
  • Strong interest in interdisciplinary study of China.Ìý
  • A record of extracurricular achievement, community engagement, social responsibility, and leadership potential.Ìý
  • English proficiency.Ìý

Application processÌý

¹û¶³Ó°Ôº will carry out a preliminary evaluation of applications submitted by their own students and alumni. Based on this assessment, ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº will nominate students for interviews conducted by the Yenching Academy.Ìý

Please contact Professor Vivienne Lo (v.lo@ucl.ac.uk) to apply. Those nominated through ¹û¶³Ó°Ôºâ€™s internal pre-selection process will then be directed to submit their application through the .Ìý

The deadline to submit your application to Professor Lo is Sunday 3 December 2023. The programme will beginÌýin September 2024.Ìý

Mainland Chinese applicants

Mainland Chinese applicants apply through a different process. In accordance with the Chinese Ministry of Education’s requirements, students holding a P.R.C. passport are eligible for September 2024 admission if they are currently enrolled as undergraduates in a Mainland Chinese university.
