¹û¶³Ó°Ôº recruiting the next cohort of mentees and mentors for B-MEntor

7 November 2019

We are seeking mentees and mentors for B-MEntor, the cross-institutional London-wide mentoring scheme for academic and research staff from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) backgrounds.

B-MEntor

B-MEntor, whichÌýis being run in partnership with Queen Mary University and Kings College London,Ìýsupports ¹û¶³Ó°Ôºâ€™s work to progress race equality under the Race Equality Charter Mark.

The requirements for participation in this scheme are as follows:

  • Mentors: must be at Senior Lecturer, Reader or Professorial level. Mentors can be from any ethnic background.
  • Mentees: should be from post-doc to lecturer level and self-identify as being from a Black and Minority Ethnic background. i.e. not white European.

We would particularly like to encourage staff of Black origin to join the scheme as they are under-represented as academics and researchers in ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº overall.

The mentoring period will be approximately one year and a training and support package is offered for all parties. The selection and matching of mentor and mentees will take place at the end of January.

Please submit expressions of interest by Friday, 6ÌýDecember 2019. Complete the appropriate form on the BMEntor Academic webpage and send to Sonal Bharadva.

More information: theÌýInclusive Advocacy Programme

Inclusive Advocacy is a sponsorship programme that aims to remove barriers to career progression and promotion for BME Staff at grades seven and eight. Advocates are members of staff from any ethnic background working at grades nine and 10. The main distinction between mentoring and sponsorship is that whilst a mentor may help an employee envision and plan their next position, an Advocate will leverage their social and career capital with the protégé, to ensure expanding developmental opportunities for them. You can read more on the Inclusive Advocacy webpage and get in touch if you’re interested in finding out more or being involved in the programme.Ìý

Thank you in advance for helping us make this innovative project a continuing success.
