¹û¶³Ó°Ôº academics presenting at New Scientist live

Numerous ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº academics will be presenting at New Scientist Live this week, the second annual edition of a festival of ideas taking place at ExCeL London.

From 28 September to 1 October, 16 ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº researchers will be delivering talks on topics including, among others, self-repairing cities, citizen science, combating ageing, the origins of life and observing the birth of the universe. They're among 144 speakers that also include astronaut Tim Peake and author Margaret Atwood.

The ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Institute of Healthcare Engineering will also be hosting a stall, featuring surgical training games, information about the world of medical imaging biomarkers and some of the latest robotic technology that's shaping the future of patient care.

The ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº academics delivering talks include:

  • Dr Helen Czerski (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Mechanical Engineering) - "We need to talk about physics" and "Cosmic Shambles live"
  • Professor Lucie Green (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Space & Climate Physics) - "Beyond the stars: seeing the invisible" and "Cosmic Shambles live"
  • Professor John Hardy (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Institute of Neurology) - "When will we cure Alzheimer's and Parkinson's?"
  • Professor Steve Jones (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Genetics, Evolution & Environment) - "Just another animal?"
  • Professor Nick Lane (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Genetics, Evolution & Environment) - "The origin of life on Earth"
  • Professor Mark Miodownik (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Mechanical Engineering) - "Self-repairing cities"
  • Dr Brenda Parker (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Biochemical Engineering) - "DIY science - biohacking and community labs"
  • Professor Linda Partridge (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Institute of Healthy Ageing) - "Is there a cure for ageing?"
