This week we put seven questions to Frida Arthur, a ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Linguistics student and President of

org/clubs-societies/african-caribbean-society" target="_self">¹û¶³Ó°ÔºU African Caribbean Society.

Why are you interested in this subject and what do you plan to do in the future?

I've always been really interested in language and communication, and linguistics allows me to gain insight into how language works. We often take for granted our ability to produce and process language - the underlying mechanisms that allow us to do this are very complex and interesting!

Following my studies, I'm hoping to pursue a career in PR and marketing.

What is the most interesting thing you've done, seen or got involved with while at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº?

I am currently President of ¹û¶³Ó°ÔºU African Caribbean Society, and joining the society last year was the best thing I've done!Ìý

It has helped me make lots of friends and bond with people I never thought would be my 'type of people'.

Every year, we put on a grand production called Panafrik and, though it can sometimes be quite stressful, it is a beautiful thing to be able to represent and express my cultures through dance, fashion, spoken word, drama and other arts.Ìý

I was part of the cast last year and it was one of the most interesting and rewarding things I've done.

This year, the show will be held on 27 February at the Shaw Theatre - make sure you !Ìý

Have you discovered any 'hidden gems' during your time at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº?

The Quad on a bright sunny day is absolutely beautiful to me. It fills me with so much pride and hope for the future.Ìý

It's pretty awesome to think that on any given day thousands of students walk across it - all with different stories and ambitions.

Give us your top three things to do/see/go to in London.

My top three things would be:

Go to in Holborn - it's a great table tennis-meets-nightclub space, which is ideal as an evening out with friends or even as an out-of-the-ordinary date location!

Next, you must go on a London tour bus! I've been living in London for nine years now and have been on three tours!ÌýLondon is such a great city and lots has happened - it's pretty cool to find out about the history of the city. Plus, the tour guides are usually really funny and entertaining.

Lastly, you must see this year's Panafrik! We have an amazing show in store for you, with African drummers, acrobats, a live band and more. It's going to an amazing production and, trust me, you don't want to miss it! You can .

If you were Provost for the day what one thing would you do?

Free food for a day - I love food!

Who inspires you and why?

Quite a few people inspire me, so this is a really difficult one. I'd have to say that I'm inspired by the person that I want to be years from now.Ìý

Ideally, Frida Arthur 10-20 years from now will be a very successful, kind-hearted, intelligent, inspiring and rich woman. That's what inspires me - wanting to be the best version of myself. Cheesy, I know!

What would it surprise people to know about you?

I don't know my left from right! Yup! I've made it through more than 12 years of education without being able to distinguish my left from my right. It was my New Year's resolution: to finally learn left and right!
