¹û¶³Ó°Ôº allocated £171m by HEFCE for 2015/16

26 March 2015

¹û¶³Ó°Ôº is to receive a funding allocation of £171m for teaching and research from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) for the academic year 2015/16, the largest overall total allocated to any English institution.

¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's total represents a 4% increase on its allocation for 2014/15, set against an overall drop in HEFCE funding for the sector of 5%.

Professor Michael Arthur, ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº President & Provost, said: "¹û¶³Ó°Ôº has done well in HEFCE's allocation, with our funding increase coming at a time when funding for the sector as a whole is down. Our excellent performance in REF2014 and our continued appeal for students have delivered a relatively pleasing outcome, and means we can plan for the future from a position of relative strength.

"But there will undoubtedly be tougher times ahead. The funding increase from HEFCE becomes a more modest 1.25% when the one-off, transitional elements (some £4.3m) are removed. With our costs inflating by at least 3% per annum, we need to be alert to external pressures and to plan accordingly."
