¹û¶³Ó°Ôº review of promotion and reward systems for staff in academic, teaching and research roles

8 October 2014

Following the publication of ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº 2034, the Provost has asked me to lead on a review of the promotion and reward systems for staff in academic, teaching and research roles.

Quad in autumn We want to ensure that merit and excellence are appropriately recognised for all staff across the domains of research, teaching, enterprise, public engagement and institutional citizenship.

The first step in this year-long review is a survey of staff in academic, teaching fellow and research fellow roles to learn more about your experience of promotion and reward at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº. All staff in non-professional services roles (i.e.. staff on academic, teaching fellow and research fellow contracts) will be emailed in the coming week by ORC, the company who ran the 2013 Staff Survey, with a personal link to the survey. The process is entirely confidential and you will not be identifiable to anyone at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº. The survey will run until the end of October.

Following that survey, we will ask ORC to run focus groups with members of staff from across the university to explore the themes and issues raised, and will Ìýuse this information to develop a set of proposals for the community to consider. ÌýWe will keep you up to date with progress via The Week.

I hope you will take the time to complete the survey and give us your views. it is important that we understand how the process currently affects our staff, before we consider how it might be developed in future.
