Queen's Birthday Honours for the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº community

A number of people from the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº community have been recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

David Fish

Professor David Fish (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Partners) has been knighted for services to the NHS. Professor David Fish became Managing Director of ¹û¶³Ó°ÔºPartners when it was established in June 2009, following a distinguished career in clinical leadership in the NHS and as a consultant in clinical neurophysiology and neurology. As Managing Director of ¹û¶³Ó°ÔºPartners, David has led the development of the academic health science partnership, instilling a culture of collaboration and support across universities, the NHS and industry for the benefit of a population of six million people.Ìý

Speaking about the honour, Professor Fish said: "I am delighted and feel hugely privileged to be recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours.Ìý It is testament to the unremitting effort and inspiration of all the staff in ¹û¶³Ó°ÔºPartners, the commitment across the partnership and the support of local communitiesÌýthat is helping to transform the lives of so many people."

Professor Catherine Law (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Institute of Child Health), Professor of Public Health and Epidemiology and Honorary Consultant in Public Health Medicine at Great Ormond Street Hospital, has received a CBE for her services to Public Health.

Professor Law said: "As a public health doctor I am very concerned about the health of our nation's children, particularly those already living in disadvantage. As a scientist, I believe thatÌýresearch is a powerful tool to promote population health and tackle the unfairness of health inequalities, and I hope this award recognises the importance of this science. I am privileged to work with wonderful colleagues at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Institute of Child Health and elsewhere - any award to me is theirs as well".

  • Professor David Delpy (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº DSc 1991, ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Honorary Fellow & former Head of ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Medical Physics & Bioengineering) - CBE for services to Engineering and Scientific Research.
  • Professor Denise Lievesley (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº BSc Statistics 1971 & ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Honorary Fellow) - CBE for services to Social Science.
  • Professor Michael Worton (Former Vice-Provost, International & Fielden Professor of French Language and Literature) - CBE for services to Higher Education.
  • Professor Aziz Sheikh (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº BSc Physiology 1990) - OBE for services to Medicine.
  • Michael Bartlett (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº LLM 2004) - MBE for services to Equality and Social Justice.
  • Valerie Bott (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº BA History 1970) - MBE for services to Heritage and Conservation.
  • Dr Howard Freeman, JP (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº MBBS 1979) - MBE for services to Primary Care.
  • Andrew Thomas Cayley QC (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº LLM Law 1986) - CMG for services to international criminal law and human rights.
  • Peter Howes (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº BA Russian & German 1995) - OBE for services to British commercial interests in Kazakhstan.
  • (Maurice) David Landau (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Laws 1970) - OBE for services to advancing UK/Israel understanding and peace in the Middle East.
  • Nikesh Mehta (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº MSCI Chemistry 1999) - OBE for services to British foreign policy, British interests in Malaysia and promoting diversity.
  • Dr Claire Lemer (¹û¶³Ó°Ôº MBBS Medicine 2000) - BEM for services to children's health.
