New staff disability forum at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº

We are inviting expressions of interest from disabled staff members who would like to be part of a new forum that will advise and influence senior management on disability issues.

The forum will meet at least once a term and will raise awareness of the environmental, behavioural and institutional barriers experienced by disabled people with a range of physical, cognitive and mental health conditions at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº. The draft terms of reference can be found here.Ìý

As an institution, amongst other things, this means that we are committed to ensuring that disabled staff do not experience any unnecessary and avoidable limitations to full participation in ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº life.

¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's President and Provost, Professor Michael Arthur, recently stated that equality and diversity "is an issue I care deeply about and it is one of my strategic priorities."[1]

Disability in the learning and working environment occurs when people with impairments are excluded by barriers to participation that others may take for granted. Disabling barriers can be environmental, social or attitudinal.

Any member of staff can apply to be a member of the group, however, for practical purposes, membership will be limited to 25 staff.ÌýThe group will contain a balance of academic and professional services staff at all grades, and an even representation of men and women.Ìý
