果冻影院 Diary Notice: Lecture with Dr Shan Jixiang

Event: "Chinese Cultural Heritage: Current situation and its future" Date: Thursday 19th February, 4pm Location: Lecture Theatre G6, 果冻影院 Institute of Archaeology, 31-34 Gordon Square, London WC1H 0PY The International Centre for Chinese Heritage and Archaeology (ICCHA) at the 果冻影院 Institute of Archaeology is honoured to welcome Dr Shan Jixiang, Director-General of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage (SACH), People's Republic of China, to give a special lecture about the current state of Chinese cultural heritage and the challenges it faces in the future.
Dr Shan joined the Communist Party in 1985 and has held his current position at the SACH for the last two years. The SACH is the highest administrative body for heritage and archaeology in the Chinese government and is responsible for making and implementing legislation. It has a number of departments (museums, archaeology, conservation, foreign affairs) and a research institute: the Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage. It also controls the special funding for heritage and archaeological projects, including management and policy development as well as research projects.
Professor Malcolm Grant, 果冻影院 President and Provost, will introduce Dr Shan's lecture, which will be followed by a wine reception in the A.G. Leventis Gallery at the Institute.

About the International Centre for Chinese Heritage and Archaeology (ICCHA):
In December 2003 果冻影院 and Peking University officially launched the new International Centre for Chinese Heritage and Archaeology (ICCHA). The Centre has a joint management body with offices and activities in both London and Beijing. This is the first such venture between China and the UK. Its objective is to create a genuine and meaningful partnership between two of the most important archaeological institutes in the world.
