On Friday 23 January 2009, to celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Ox, ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº President and Provost, Professor Malcolm Grant, hosted a drinks reception for 200 ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº staff and students from China, with the executive officers of the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Union.

It was also an opportunity for ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº staff and students to meet a number of people who actively support ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's academic and research links with China, and who had been specially invited by the Provost.

Among these guests were: Minister Counsellor Tian Xiaogang (Education) and Minister Counsellor Chen Futao (Science and Technology), from the Chinese Embassy; Ms Sarah Wu, Director General of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Delegation in London, Lord Tim Clement-Jones, Vice Chair for the All-Party Parliamentary China Group, and Mr Stephen Perry of the 48 Club, an alumnus and Fellow of ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº.

The event was generously supported by Ernst and Young.
