Lunch attendee Ms Anjel Stough (MSc Medical Anthropology) said: "For students from the United States, this is a very nice gesture which shows acceptance of our culture. Thanksgiving is very family oriented, so this is a great way to beat off homesickness."

Mr Fabio Periera, a Philosophy affiliate student, added: "Thanksgiving is a quintessential American holiday. It's something we miss a lot when away from home, so it's nice to have something like this."

¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's President and Provost, Professor Malcolm Grant also enjoyed traditional thanksgiving fare including corn and shrimp chowder, turkey and pumpkin pie.

Professor Grant welcomed the gathering, drawing attention to ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº's strong connections with American institutions, and the intertwined histories of ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº and the first American universities, including the University of Virginia and New York University. He said: "From our earliest times, we have a had a strong relationship with the US, which we have maintained over the years. I was actually in New York only last week, so I bring you greetings from both sides of the Atlantic, to say please enjoy your time at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº and remember us, because throughout your career we shall regard you as one of our community."

Professor Atkinson followed on by explaining her role as Pro-Provost, and expressing hope that North American undergraduates would consider returning to post-graduate study at ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº and act as ambassadors for ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº back in the USA.
