Description

Currently, there is growing interest in multilingualism and multicultural diversity. External factors such as migration lead to even greater diversity within populations in our modern societies, especially in big cities. In particular, the new module will address four key questions: (1) Does promoting socio-cultural diversity enhance cognitive capacity and flexible behaviour across the lifespan? (2) Are multilingual school children a resource or a challenge for achieving good learning outcomes in education? (3) Are multilingual adults an economic asset or a drain on the workforce? (4) How have the pandemic and social media affected speech, language communication, and cultural integration? This module aims to provide a comprehensive, multifaceted exploration of the intersection between psychology and multilanguage acquisition, preparing students for careers in psychology, education, linguistics, and related fields.
