Module Content
This is a dissertation course for MSci Human Sciences and Evolution students. The overall aim of this course is to develop your research skills, including independent thinking and writing skills. With support from an academic supervisor, you will (1) develop your own research question, (2) carry out a comprehensive review of the relevant literature, (3) plan your research methods, (4) carry out analyses, and (5) interpret your results in context of past and current research. The course is intended to enable you to follow up your own interests and to explore a topic of your own choosing within the broad field of Human Sciences and Evolution.
This course is student-led, with the support of one or two supervisory academic staff. Student projects are expected to conduct primary or secondary research (e.g., laboratory, fieldwork, data analysis, systematic reviews).

Teaching Delivery
Students are primarily responsible for carrying out and completing their project, including finding appropriate supervisor(s) who are able to provide specialised academic guidance. Where required, students will receive ad-hoc additional support/advice from the module organiser via individual meetings and/or e-mail.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module, you should be able to:
- Develop a specific research question.
- Plan and carry out a research project, working independently to a deadline.
- Think independently about a topic within Human Sciences and Evolution.
- Communicate your research effectively, via writing and presentations.
Additional Information
Students should begin planning their project and looking for their primary supervisor over the summer, before they begin their MSci.
