Description

The module on advanced energy storage includes the comprehensive exploration of batteries, supercapacitors, fuel cells, metal air batteries and redox flow cells technologies. It provides students the essential electrochemistry and materials science knowledge for designing and characterising energy storage solutions. The students will learn about the relationship between the material’s chemical composition/structure and the electrochemical performance, the role of electrolytes, and the charge transfer mechanisms. Both the fundamental and applied aspects of energy storage will be introduced, with a state-of-the-art overview of the trends in the academic and industrial sectors. The applications of fundamental knowledge of energy storage to tackle the energy and environmental challenges will be demonstrated through case studies.
