  1. Principles of Public International Law A (ESPS0008)

Description

This course shall provide an introduction to the subject of public international law. It shall address the background, subjects, and sources of international law; states and international organizations as subjects of international law; state jurisdiction over individuals, land, water, and outer space; state responsibility for violations of international law; state and diplomatic immunities; the system of the United Nations; and lawful use of force. During classes, current affairs will be discussed and analyzed. Available to all years and affiliates.

Term 1:

The nature and development of international law; sources of international law; the Law of Treaties; subjects of international law: states, international organizations, individuals, and corporations; the UN system; the use of force.

Term 2:

State responsibility in international law; law on use of force by states in self-defence, its legality and legitimacy; the International Court of Justice; the International Criminal Court; refugee law; international environmental law
