The ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Ear Institute and Action on Hearing Loss Libraries at the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital in Gray’s Inn Road were due to close on Friday 21st August 2020, necessitated by the Hospital’s relocation within ¹û¶³Ó°ÔºH. Due to the current circumstances and the resultant early closure of the Hospital building, the libraries will not re-open in this location. Full details...Ìý

Where are the RNID rare books and archive collections? Can I consult them?

The RNIDÌýrare books and archivesÌýhave been transferred toÌý¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Special Collections.Ìý

Special Collections is part of ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Library Services, and its mission is to collect, preserve and make available archives, rare books, records and manuscripts to support the research and teaching of ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº. The department also carries out an extensive programme of teaching, events, exhibitions and outreach to engage ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº staff and students and external audiences with the collections.

Access to these rare materials is provided through specialised cataloguing, on-line access to catalogues and guides, dedicated enquiry services, invigilated reading rooms, digitisation services and publication advice.

You can contact us to book a space in the Special Collections reading room and look at the materials. Please see theÌýVisiting Us webpageÌýfor more information. Access is free of charge and open to all. Our Reader Services team will be happy to help you with any enquiries you may have about opening hours or the collections.

Where are the audiology books? Can I consult them?

The audiology books to support teaching are primarily held inÌýtheÌý¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Language and Speech Science (LaSS) Library. Please check the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Library Services website for information on how to accessÌýour collections.ÌýThe LaSS Library will continue to add to the audiology collection in the future.ÌýPlease emailÌýlib-lass@ucl.ac.ukÌýif you have any questions or comments.Ìý

Where are the ENT clinical books? Can I consult them?

The ENT clinical books are primarily held in theÌý¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Cruciform Hub,Ìýwhich holds collections across all clinical specialties. Please check the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Library Services website for information on how to accessÌýour collections.ÌýThe Cruciform Hub will continue to add to the ENT collection in the future. The materials not relocated to Special Collections, the LaSS Library or the Cruciform Hub are held in theÌý¹û¶³Ó°Ôº StoresÌýand can be accessed via our Stores service.Ìý

Registered members of ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Library Services may access the RNID collections held at the Cruciform and LaSS libraries and the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Store.

  • RNID staff are entitled to free reference membership.
  • External researchers/members of the public – a membership charge applies.

Reference members may alsoÌýaccessÌýelectronic resources via the dedicated Explore Access Points locatedÌýin the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº libraries.
