John Williams Worrell Carrington

Biography

Slave-owner on Barbados. With his brother Nathaniel Thomas Williams Worrell Carrington he was shown in the Public Works Loans Board records as purchaser of an unnamed estate in St Thomas St Vincent [sic] from George Moe in 1827: this must have in fact been an estate in Barbados.

  1. John Williams Worrell Carrington, son of Richard Williams Carrington (planter of Barbados whose will was proved in 1817) and his wife Jane nee Worrell. Born 06/02/1799 in St Thomas, Barbados, and baptised 01/01/1800 in St Thomas. Brother of Nathaniel Thomas Worrell Carrington (q.v.). Of St Peter, Barbados, when he married Margaret Williams Trotman in St George, 06/03/1832.

  2. Attending physician at the birth of Lord Combermere's second son at Dunscombe House St.Thomas (Lord Combermere was at that time Governor of Barbados and the Windward Islands). 鈥∣n 21/04/1825, he was reported in the "Barbadian鈥 newspaper as arriving from England.鈥 In 1831 Dr. J W W Carrington was the Assistant Surgeon of the St. Thomas Regiment of the Barbados Militia.

  3. Purchased Welchman's Hall from Mr Ellis of St Thomas in 1840. Died 15/11/1866 at Welchman's Hall and was buried 17/11/1866 at the vault at Sturges Plant.
