David Currie

Biography

London merchant, partner with his son Colin Currie (q.v.). until 1760. The successor firm of Currie and Shakespear was a West India merchant: the focus of David Shakespear's own business has not yet been fully established, but he operated at least in part as London correspondent for Jamaican slave-owning members of his wife's family, the Campbells of Black River, and their networks.

  1. Will of David Currie of Chiswick, made in 1766, proved 26/01/1771. He left his wife Anne his house at Chiswick for life and an annuity of 拢200 p.a., and his daughter Elizabeth wife of John Shakespear 拢2000. His residuary heir was his son Colin.
