Second son of Sir Thomas Modyford (1st Bart, died 1679) and his wife Elizabeth, daughter of Lewin Palmer of Devonshire. Succeeded his brother Sir Thomas Modyford, 2nd Bart, who died a month after his father. Married Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Thomas Norton. Lived at Angells, Jamaica. Died c. 1686.
Charles Modyford of St John, baronet. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1688. Slave-ownership at probate: 242 of whom 118 were listed as male and 124 as female. 72 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: 拢5648.1 Jamaican currency of which 拢3245 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included 拢9.49 currency cash, 拢64.48 currency debts and 拢275.9 currency plate.

Born into slavery in Carriacou, Grenada, Malvina Wells became a lady's maid in Edinburgh and a trusted family friend to her employers.
