Biography

Will of Rev. John Venn Rector of St Catherine Jamaica proved 19/07/1764. He instructed his property - including 'negroes' - to be sold at auction, recording his sense that sale at appraised value was unfair. He left 拢3000 currency to his wife Elizabeth and 拢6700 to his three daughters already in England (拢2600 to his eldest daughter Mary; 拢2100 to Elizabeth; and 拢2000 to Sarah) and 拢2800 currency to his fourth daughter Susanna Bonella Venn. He held, he said, a mortgage over Julines Beckford's Eaton estate for 拢3000 sterling [given in codicil as 拢4200], which by his codicil he assigned to his wife.
