John Taylor of Grenada

???? - 1764

Biography

Slave-owner and early investor in Grenada, where according to his will [made in 1764 and proved 04/03/1768] he owned the moiety of land and enslaved people on Carriacou. He left an annuity of 拢20 p.a. to his half-brother James, 拢20 p.a. to his mother Agnes Taylor of Dalton in Furness, and his residuary estate to the children of his half-sister Margaret Barker and full sister Jane. He gave his trustee John Tarleton the option to purchase his half of the Carriacou estate and enslaved people, and left him 拢500. It is not yet clear whether this Carriacou property was the same as the Mount Pleasant estate which John Tarleton owned by 1773.
