Biography

London merchant, absentee slave-owner on Berbice, son of Judith Philip and Edmund Thornton (both of whom q.v.).

  1. Will of Louis Edmund Thornton of Norton Street Middlesex proved 27/09/1830. In the will he left his real and personal property in trust (one of his trustees was Crawford Davison Kerr, q.v.) to fund his monetary legacies, which included 拢1500 between his thee sisters. He instructed that drinking cups be given to 'the sons of my father' i.e. 'William Wheeler [sic] Butler Edmund Thornton and William Thomas Thornton'. He left an annuity of 拢300 p.a. to his wife Elizabeth Charlotte (also given as Charlotte Elizabeth), together with a lump-sum of 拢1000.
