Slave-owner in Jamaica, of Bath when he made his will in 1791. To date no burial record or death-date has been found for him in Britain.
Possibly the John Ashley who contributed 拢9 10s to the University of Pennsylvania following Dr John Morgan's fundraising tour of the West Indies in 1772-1773.
Will of John Ashley [of the parish of Vere in Jamaica but now residing at] of Bath [made in 1791] proved 23/01/1799. In the will he left Ashley Hall to his wife Mary for life and then to his four children as tenants-in-common: he also left his children annuities of 拢100 p.a. each.

Enslaved boy on Unity Valley Pen, Jamaica. Manumitted in 1795 by David Barclay and removed to Philadelphia, with 29 other freed persons from the estate, where he was placed under the care of Society for Improving the Condition of Free Blacks.
