John Dunston

Biography

Resident slave-owner in Jamaica, dead by 1765. His widow Frances nee Harris married Fortunatus Dwarris II (1723-1790), the great uncle of Sir Fortunatus Dwarris (q.v.)

  1. John Dunston owned 41 acres in St Andrew in 1753.

  2. John Dunston was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 300 acres of land in St Catherine and 65 acres of land in St Andrew, total 365 acres.

  3. John Dunston of Kingston, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1765. Slave-ownership at probate: 218 of whom 114 were listed as male and 104 as female. 73 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: 拢14,726.38 Jamaican currency of which 拢10,582.5 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included 拢0 currency cash, 拢305.7 currency debts and 拢480.81 currency plate.
