Biography

Jamaica slave-owner, father of Robert Nedham MP (q.v.). He left his estates to his second son Henry who in turn left them to Robert Nedham MP.

  1. Robert Nedham of St Mary, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1739. Slave-ownership at probate: 779 of whom 422 were listed as male and 357 as female. 185 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: 拢39,321.73 currency (拢28,086.95 sterling) of which 拢24,646 currency (拢17,604.29 sterling) was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included 拢318.5 currency (拢227.5 sterling) plate, 拢1,358.21 currency (拢970.15 sterling) debts and 拢0 currency (拢0 sterling) cash.

  2. The will of Robert Nedham was proved in Jamaica in 1737.
