Biography

Owner of Bid[d]eford estate in Trelawny, and probably of Sportsmans Hall in the same parish. Shown as 'late' by 1784: his death was reported in a letter of William Miles to John Tharp dated 10/01/1782. Secondary sources show him as the son of Jonathan Barnett and Jane Stone (each of whom q.v.).

Hugh Barnett of Trelawny, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1783. Slave-ownership at probate: 271 of whom 142 were listed as male and 129 as female. 0 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: 拢23992.5 Jamaican currency of which 拢21017 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included 拢0 currency cash, 拢0 currency debts and 拢0 currency plate.
