Biography

Father of George Heathcote MP for Hindon, Southwark and London 1727-1747, and almost certainly the same man as that given by Dunn as Joshua Heathcote merchant in Port Royal, in partnership with George Heathcote, and as managing Bybrook in St Thomas-in-the-East from 1691 to 1698.

  1. Will of Josiah Heathcote merchant London proved 05/12/1706. In the will he identified his [surviving?] brothers as Gilbert, John, William, Samuel and Caleb, and his minor son and heir as George (born he said in St Andrew Jamaica in 1700). He made bequests of 拢200 to the poor of Chesterfield and 拢30 to the poor of Kingston Jamaica. He made provision for legacies of 拢500 with a further 拢500 contingent on the death of his wife Catherine to Ann Barrett, identified as daughter of Thomas Barrett of Jamaica and in fact his step-daughter.
