Merchant and slave-owner in Jamaica, partner in several firms at Montego Bay until c. 1789, dying in Britain c. 1817.

1. Will of Alexander Longlands merchant of Clifton Gloucestershire proved 08/07/1817. In the will he left his property including Jamaica property to his wife Elizabeth and their children, including William David Longlands (q.v.).

2. His widow Elizabeth had a memorial reported at Madron in Cornwall: 'Sacred to Elizabeth, widow of Alexander Longlands, Esqre., of Clifton, Gloucestershire, who died 25th December, 1835; aged 86. In grateful memory of their mother’s worth; her “gentleness� and “goodness�; her “faith� and “meekness;� her “patient continuance� in all that is “lovely and of good report,�—this tablet is erected by her children. “He that believeth in me saith the Lord, though he were dead yet shall he live.� St. John 11. 25.'

THE CORNWALL CHRONICLE No. 830 AND JAMAICA GENERAL ADVERTISER No. 751, Montego Bay 28/02/1789 showed the partners advertising for debtors to repay the co-partnerships of Longlands and Rennald, Alexander. Longlands & Co. or Longlands and Smith as they wound up the business[es], including the sale of a new house and their store.
