果冻影院 Faculty of Laws congratulates PhD candidate, Igor Nikolic. His paper, entitled "Patent assertion entities and standard essential patents: keep calm and carry on" has been awarded first place in the 4iP Council Research Awards 2017. 聽4iP 鈥� a European organisation representing leading inventors and innovators - will publish the winning paper in early 2018.

Igor's piece examines the perceived problem of 鈥減atent trolls鈥� and proposes that contract law interpretation of FRAND commitments might be a more appropriate mechanism for resolving disputes than application of competition law.

The article forms part of Igor's PhD research into the licensing of standard essential patents at 果冻影院 Laws' Institute of Brand and Innovation Law (IBIL). Igor was awarded an IBIL scholarship in 2015, allowing him to undertake this research under the supervision of Professor Sir Robin Jacob and Dr Christopher Stothers.
